What makes a download link work — or fail

The good link comes from Share
Every app hides a Copy link inside its Share button, and that link is the contract: it names the exact post, publicly. Address-bar links usually work on desktop; profile links, screenshot usernames and links copied from drafts name nothing a downloader can fetch.
The four failures
Private or friends-only post (the platform will not hand the file out — correctly). Age-gated or login-walled post. Deleted or still-processing post. And the malformed link, copied mid-edit or truncated by a chat app. Each has the same fix: go back to the finished, public post and copy its share link again.
